Job Overview:
The Director of Patient and Employee Safety is responsible for leading and overseeing the organization's safety programs to ensure a secure and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The Director of Patient and Employee Safety develops and implements strategic initiatives that promote a culture of safety, reduce risk, and ensure adherence to regulatory standards across the organization. This position is also primarily responsible for overseeing the OHS department as well as the function of risk management within the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive patient and employee safety programs, policies, and procedures in alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Leads the investigation of safety incidents, near-misses, and adverse events, identifying root causes and implementing corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Oversees the incident reporting platform, ensuring accurate documentation, timely follow-up, and trend analysis to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborates with clinical and operational leadership to embed safety best practices across all departments and care settings.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards such as The Joint Commission (TJC), OSHA, and CMS.
- Leads safety-related education and training initiatives for clinical and non-clinical staff to promote awareness and accountability.
Qualifications:
- Active New York State MD, NP, or PA License required.
- DEA Required.
- BLS/ALS Certification, required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare safety or quality management.
- Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory standards and clinical best practices (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA, CMS guidelines)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Analytical skills for data review and reporting.
- In-depth understanding of clinical operations and regulatory frameworks in physician practices.
- Demonstrate strong ability to identify risks, develop action plans, and lead initiatives to improve clinical safety and quality.
