Job Location: Brooklyn 11220/ Manhattan 10013

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews patient intake information for accuracy; obtains clarity/makes corrections as needed.
  • In accordance with established guidelines, prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by checking pretests are done by Associate, dilating pupils, changes in visual acuity, elevated extraocular pressure, etc., communicates results to Attending Physician. 
  • Prepares and assembles all pertinent reports/tests for physicians.
  • Answers patient questions of varying complexity without providing medical advice.
  • Prepares and assists physician with examination, minor surgeries and procedures within scope of practice.
  • Assists with checking expiration of medications and supplies and follow-up as appropriate and in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
  • Assists doctors with charting, may transcribes results into our EHR (electronic health record) as physician(s) orally dictate during patient exam; transcribes results in an accurate and detailed completion.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, an associate or bachelor's degree preferred
  • Formal education in Optometry or Ophthalmology is preferred but not required
  • Minimum 1 year of practical experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
  • Knowledgeable in medical terminology
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledgeable in EMR systems, proficiency in MDLand is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Bilingual English and Cantonese is required, Mandarin a plus
