Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and detailed-oriented Ophthalmic Care Assistant fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese to support patient care at our Eye Clinic. This role is vital in ensuring patients receive clear communication throughout their visit. They will work closely with physicians during examinations/ visits, helping to translate and explain medical instructions, particularly for elderly Chinese-speaking patients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accompany providers during eye exams and serve as an in-room bilingual support person
  • Translate and explain clinical finds, treatment plans, and follow up instructions in Mandarin or Cantonese to patients and their families
  • Assist with confirming patient understanding of their condition, medication, and post-visit care instructions
  • Help bridge communication between medical staff and patients who speak limited English
  • Work with front desk and clinical teams to ensure patient flow and comfort throughout the visit
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and always adhere to HIPAA regulations
  • Perform other administrative or clinical support duties as needed

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required; eyecare experience a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment and remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cultural sensitivity skills
  • Strong attention to detail and patient-centered attitude
  • Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and basic English required
